About Us

Borno State Ministry of Information and Internal Security plays a pivotal role in shaping public communication and enhancing internal security across the state. Under the leadership of Commissioner Prof. Usman A. Tar, the ministry has undertaken several initiatives aimed at promoting transparency, cultural preservation, and security enhancement.

Core Mandate and Functions

The ministry is tasked with disseminating accurate information, managing the state's internal security apparatus, and preserving Borno's rich cultural heritage. It collaborates with various stakeholders to ensure effective communication and security strategies are implemented throughout the state.

Key Initiatives and Achievements

  • Cultural Revitalization: The ministry has been instrumental in promoting Borno's cultural identity. Notably, the Borno State Cultural Troupe received accolades at the National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST), highlighting the state's commitment to cultural excellence.

  • Security Enhancements: Efforts to bolster internal security include the establishment of an intelligence gathering center in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force. This center aims to improve intelligence sharing among security agencies to combat terrorism and other criminal activities.

  • Digital Transformation: To safeguard sensitive information, the ministry launched an e-staff web application designed to prevent unauthorized access and information leaks within government institutions.

  • Community Engagement: The ministry actively engages with the public through events like World Radio Day, partnering with organizations such as KanemPress Digital Hub to celebrate the role of radio in promoting peace and development in the region.

Future Plans

Looking ahead, the ministry has proposed several projects for 2025, including the construction of a cultural center, remodeling of historical sites, and the establishment of fire service stations across all 27 local government areas. These initiatives aim to further enhance the state's cultural landscape and emergency response capabilities. 
